Veka PLC, Safran Nacelles and Velocity Composites
Three Burnley Enterprise Advisers from Veka, Safran Nacelles and Velocity Composites have collaborated with the Career Leaders from Shuttleworth College, Blessed Trinity Catholic College and Sir John Thursby Community College to create a pilot programme to inspire and encourage girls in Burnley to become engineering leads of the future.
Girls with Goals is a pilot project, offering mentoring and support to students to help them explore careers in science and engineering when they leave school. Kelly McGrath, HR Business Partner, facilitated the project on behalf of Velocity Composites, hosting a ‘thinking differently and embracing change’ session which proved successful with positive feedback from the six students involved.
Working with Lancashire Careers Hub, the plan is to roll this out next year, involving more businesses from different sectors and also involve more schools to ensure more opportunity for young females who aspire to become future leaders.
