To raise pupil awareness of careers in the maritime sector Maritime UK have produced a free range of presentations and resources for teachers. These resources can be found at the below link and have been developed to ensure career teachers have presentations and resources suitable for the way careers lessons are structured in their establishments, be this 60 minute lessons, shorter lessons, or an assembly with a follow up form room activity.

From working at sea to designing superyachts, and sustainable energy to shipbroking, maritime offers exciting and varied career pathways in all regions of the UK, with some roles offering international travel opportunities.
With the recent review of the Gatsby benchmarks a greater emphasis has been placed on children gaining meaningful workplace experience and maritime offers a range of opportunities for this.
As well as explaining what maritime careers can offer, each presentation also features an activity which allows children to explore maritime careers in more detail and identify roles they may be interested in undertaking. The lesson activity also presents an opportunity for pupils to identify companies they may wish to approach when applying for workplace experiences.
Should teachers wish they can also make use of our free ambassador programme to request maritime ambassadors to speak in classes or at career events through the below link. Maritime ambassadors are a national group of volunteers who work in all aspects of the maritime sector and offer an opportunity for schools to introduce the children to real life role models as well as volunteers with different life experiences to their own and get first-hand, practical advice about the world of work to help them see the relevance of classroom learning to their futures.
